Obama begins second term facing pessimistic public: Poll

President Barack Obama delivers remarks alongside Vice President Joe Biden on Jan. 1. (Jonathan Ernst/Reuters)As President Barack Obama heads into his second term, he faces a pessimistic and weary public, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll released late Tuesday.

The percentage of Americans satisfied with the direction of the country stands at a paltry 23 percent in a poll taken Dec. 14-17. By a margin of 50 to 47 percent, respondents said the country’s best years are over.

Fifty percent of respondents said it is somewhat or very unlikely that today’s youth will have a better life than their parents.

That pessimism and negativity extends to the president, according to the poll.

When respondents were asked to choose adjectives to describe their feelings about the president’s re-election, the poll showed the excitement and pride many Americans felt about the president’s first term has diminished.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents in November 2008 said they felt optimistic about the president’s election and the same percentage said it made them feel proud. Last month those numbers fell to 52 percent for optimistic and 48 percent for proud. Forty-three percent of Americans surveyed also said they feel pessimistic about the president’s re-election and 36 percent said it made them feel afraid—both increases from 2008.

The president’s approval rating, however, hovered at the 50 percent threshold in the USA Today/Gallup survey. This is 1 percentage point above George W. Bush as he headed into his second term, but below the 58 percent rating held by Bill Clinton and 59 percent held by Ronald Reagan.

The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Hillary Clinton sips coffee 10,000 miles away during Bill’s speech

Hillary Rodham Clinton (Wellesley College)

DILI (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sipped coffee at a bean-processing plant nearly 10,000 miles away in East Timor around the time her husband delivered a speech to the Democratic convention, but she watched a recording and said it was “great”.

Clinton woke up and smelt the coffee in Asia’s newest nation after an overnight flight from Beijing as former President Bill Clinton delivered a rousing nomination speech for President Barack Obama in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hillary Clinton and Obama were rivals for the Democratic nomination in 2008 and she has been talked about as a possible candidate for the presidency in 2016.

“It’s a great honor for him (Bill Clinton) to be nominating the president and I’m delighted to be here in Timor Leste (East Timor) on behalf of the United States,” she told a news conference. She later said she had spoken to her husband after his speech.

“This is the first convention that I have missed in many, many years. For decades, secretaries of state have not attended political conventions because of the non-partisan nature of our foreign policy. I think it’s a good rule. It’s one that I certainly accepted.”

She later watched a recording of the speech at the U.S. embassy and told reporters it was “great”, adding that she had also spoken to her husband.

Clinton held talks with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and President Taur Matan Ruak in the capital Dili, which is around 9,962 miles from Charlotte across the Pacific Ocean. Her visit was part of a trip to east Asia.

She also toured a USAID-funded coffee finishing plant, a symbol of the country’s second-largest export which generates some $10 million per year.

Women workers in pink and purple uniforms sorted coffee beans rolling off simple conveyor belts. The plant’s walls were lined with huge sacks of coffee, much of it destined for the U.S. coffee giant Starbucks, which is a major customer.

“It’s delicious,” Clinton said following the tour.

East Timor is one of Asia’s poorest nations. It celebrated 10 years of independence from Indonesia earlier this year.

Obama’s high school pot-smoking detailed in Maraniss book – He must have been getting high every day….

THIS BUD‘S FOR YOU

Play Me While You Read This Article.  This is my dedication the “Choom Gang” and their leader, “Barry Obama”.

Bill Clinton he was not. When it came to smoking pot, the teenage Barack Obama had rules. You had to embrace “total absorption” or face a penalty. When you smoked in the car, “the windows had to be rolled up.” And he could horn his way in, calling out “Intercepted!” and grab the joint out of turn.

Best-selling author David Maraniss“Barack Obama: The Story” describes the future president’s teenage antics, notably his copious marijuana smoking, details of which were published early Friday by Buzzfeed. While the book won’t be released until June 19, vast sections of it were already available Friday on Google Books.

Starting on page 293, the reader begins to get the dope on high school-age Obama’s group of basketball- and fun-loving buds, who dubbed themselves the “Choom Gang,” from a verb meaning “to smoke marijuana.”

“As a member of the Choom Gang, Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking  trends. The first was called ‘TA,’ short for ‘total absorption.’ To place this in the physical and political context of another young man who would grow up to be president, TA was the antithesis of Bill Clinton’s claim that as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford he smoked dope but never inhaled,” writes Maraniss, author of a biography of the 42nd president.

“When you were with Barry and his pals, if you exhaled precious pakalolo (Hawaiian slang from marijuana, meaning “numbing tobacco”) instead of absorbing it fully into your lungs, you were assessed a penalty and your turn was skipped the next time the joint came around. “‘Wasting good bud smoke was not tolerated,’ explained one member of the Choom Gang, Tom Topolinski, the Chinese-looking kid with a Polish name who answered to Topo.”

Obama also made popular a pot-smoking practice that the future president and his pals called “roof hits.” When they smoked in the car, they rolled up the windows, and “when the pot was gone, they tilted their heads back and sucked in the last bit of smoke from the ceiling,” Maraniss writes.

Obama “also had a knack for interceptions. When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted ‘Intercepted’ and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind,” according to the text.

Maraniss details how the Choom Gang relaxed at a spot they called “Pumping Stations” partway up Mount Tantalus on Oahu.

“They parked single file on the grassy edge, turned up their stereos playing Aerosmith, Blue Öyster Cult, and Stevie Wonder, lit up some ‘sweet-sticky Hawaiian buds,’ and washed it down with ‘green bottled beer’ (the Choom Gang preferred Heineken, Beck’s, and St. Pauli Girl),” according to Maraniss.

“No shouting, no violence, no fights; they even cleaned up their beer bottles. This was their haven, in the darkness high above the city and the pressures of Punahou,” he writes.

They also operated by consensus (NATO-style!), with any member able to “veto” a suggestion. “Whenever an idea was broached, someone could hold up his hand in the V sign (a backward peace sign of that era) and indicate that the motion was not approved. They later shortened the process so that you could just shout ‘V’ to get the point across,” says Maraniss.

Sure, they drove around in a VW bus nicknamed the “Choomwagon.” And their dealer was a “freakin’ scary” guy named Ray who met a grisly end. “Many years later they learned that he had been killed with a ball-peen hammer by a scorned gay lover.” (On his yearbook page, Obama says “Thanks Tut, Gramps, Choom Gang, and Ray for all the good times.”)

But Maraniss also suggests that Obama, like, oh, everyone in the world, embellished his mischief.

“Later in life, looking back on those days, Obama made it sound as though he were hanging out with a group of misbegotten ne’er-do-wells, what he called the ‘club of disaffection.’ In fact, most members of the Choom Gang were decent students and athletes who went on to successful and productive lives as lawyers, writers, and businessmen,” the author says.

Obama was a solid student, and adept at what some readers might know as “osmotic learning.”

“He seemed nonchalant, yet performed well. How did he do it? He told his Choom Gang mates that the trick was if you put the textbook under your pillow the night before you would perform better on an exam. ‘It never worked for me,’ said Topolinski.”

Hollywood Producer Heard Bill Clinton Say Obama Ineligible

President Barack Obama addresses the House Dem...

The Usurper in the White House Barack H Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, aka Harrison J Bounel, aka Barry Obama.

by Jerome R. Corsi Senior Writer at WND.

Jerome R. Corsi, a Harvard Ph.D., is a WND senior staff reporter. He has authored many books, including No. 1 N.Y. Times best-sellers “The Obama Nation“, “Unfit for Command”, and “Where’s The Birth Certificate”.

Below is the link to this amazing video for this article.

Bettina Viviano – who started her own film production company in 1990 after serving as vice president of production for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment – told WND that it was common knowledge among delegates committed to Hillary that the Clintons believed Obama was constitutionally ineligible and that Bill Clinton would eventually disclose his belief to the public.

The Clintons were the original “birthers,” Viviano told WND in an interview in Los Angeles.

“Everybody who has called this a conspiracy from the Republicans or the tea party, they need to know who started it – the Democrats,” she said.

“It was Hillary and Bill, and it percolated up from there,” said Viviano, who had access to the campaign through a documentary she produced on the claims of delegates that Obama and the Democratic National Committee were stealing the nomination from Hillary.

As WND reported, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his team investigating Obama’s eligibility believe there is probable cause that the documents released by the White House as Obama’s long-form birth certificate and Selective Service registration form are forgeries.

Viviano said that she was on a conference phone call during the primary season in the spring of 2008 in which she heard Bill Clinton refer to Obama as ineligible for the presidency.

In the course of the phone conversation with Hillary delegates, she recalled, Bill Clinton spoke of Obama as “the non-citizen.”

“In the world we were in, with [Hillary's] super-delegates and delegates, it just was, ‘He’s not legit – that’s the end of it, period, end of story.’ It wasn’t up for discussion,” Viviano said.

Michele Thomas, a Hillary campaigner from Los Angeles, confirmed to WND that she learned from “many people who were close to Hillary” that Obama “was not eligible to be president.”

Thomas led a nationwide petition drive among delegates to force a vote on Hillary’s nomination at the convention after then-DNC Chairman Howard Dean announced her name would not be put into nomination and Obama would be declared the winner by unanimous acclamation.

Viviano said that it was understood that Bill Clinton would eventually go public with his contention that Obama was ineligible for the presidency.

“He, I believe, was frothing at the mouth to tell the truth about Obama,” she said.

In the meantime, she recalled, the former president would make ironic references in public in which he “teetered” on revealing he position.

“He would go on camera,” Viviano said, “and jokingly make comments about, you know, ‘Is Obama qualified to be president? Well, if he’s 35 and a wink, wink, United States citizen, I guess he’s qualified.’”

She claimed, however, that Bill Clinton’s intention to unequivocally state to the public that Obama was ineligible was stopped in its tracks by the murder of a close friend of the Clintons, Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney, just two weeks before the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Gwatney was killed Aug. 13, 2008, when a 50-year-old man entered Democratic Party headquarters in Little Rock and shot him three times. Police killed the murderer after a chase, and investigators found no motive.

The Clintons said in a statement that they were “stunned and shaken” by the killing of their “cherished friend and confidante.”

Viviano said a campaign staffer who was close to Hillary, whose name she requested be withheld for security reasons, told her Gwatney’s murder was a message to Bill Clinton.

“I was told by this person that that was ‘Shutupsville, or you’re next,’” she said.

The campaign adviser, according to Viviano, said that despite the intimidation and threats, Bill Clinton was prepared to speak out about Obama’s eligibility

“And then,” Viviano said, paraphrasing the staffer, “they went in and said, ‘OK, it’s your daughter, now, we’ll go after.’

“And then Bill never said anything.”

Others in the campaign who believe Gwatney’s murder was a message to the Clintons think it had to do with the fact that Gwatney was resisting an effort by the Obama campaign and the party to intimidate Hillary delegates into voting for Obama.

But Viviano argues that California delegates also were rebelling, and she says her source told her the same story two years later.

Since the 2008 campaign, Clinton has insisted publicly that Obama is eligible for the White House.

He weighed in on the issue in an April 2011 interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America,” when Donald Trump was urging Obama to release his long-form birth certificate to the public.

“If I were them, I’d be really careful riding that birther horse too much,” Clinton said. “Everyone knows it’s ludicrous.”

‘I had never voted in my life’

When Viviano headed production for Spielberg, her credits included the second and third “Back to the Future” films, “Cape Fear,” “Land Before Time,” “Schindler’s List,” “Always,” “Roger Rabbit” and the third “Indiana Jones” film.

She launched her own production and management company, Viviano Entertainment, in 1990. Her movies include “Three to Tango” and “Jack and Jill,” starring Adam Sandler.

Viviano was plunged into the world of campaign politics in 2008 as an admitted neophyte when Hollywood screenwriter and director Gigi Gaston asked her to produce a documentary called “We Will Not Be Silenced” on allegations of voter fraud against Hillary Clinton by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

“I had never voted in my life. I wasn’t a Democrat, I wasn’t a Republican. I wasn’t anything,” Viviano said. “I didn’t know anything about any of this.”

Viviano said that when she and her co-workers informed Hillary campaigners that they were making a film about voter fraud, “the floodgates opened.”

“I mean, everybody had a story to tell about death threats, threats, intimidation, document falsifying, vandalism, property theft,” she said. “It was the most horrible thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Viviano said that in research for the film, allegations and evidence that Obama was not eligible “came up immediately.”

“We were getting hit with so many things about Obama,” she said. “This is when (Bill) Ayers and (Rashid) Khalidi were in the news, and then, all of a sudden, ‘Oh, and he’s not eligible to be president.’”

Viviano insisted to WND that her reason for speaking out now was not related to the fact that Obama beat Hillary.

“It’s not about Hillary,” she said. “It’s about No. 1, I’m American, I live in a country where there is a Constitution and a set of laws. I also have somebody in the White House who has lied, obfuscated, provided what we all know to be forged documents about who he is.”

She acknowledges that she could jeopardize her Hollywood career.

“What can you do?” she said. “It’s my country. My dad fought for this country in World War II in the 82nd Airborne.”

Her late father, she noted, was shot down twice during the war and was awarded two Purple Hearts.

“I think, would he rather have me sitting in the corner cowering, and afraid of people, or would he rather have me tell the truth and what I saw?”

Mo. House OKs Candidate Birth Records Requirement

Posted: Mar 28, 2012 6:53 PM by Associated Press Updated: Mar 28, 2012 7:27 PM

JEFFERSON CITY (AP) – Birth records for presidential and vice presidential candidates would need to be publicly available for those appearing on Missouri ballots.

Political parties would be required to give the secretary of state’s office proof of their candidates’ identity and that they are natural born citizens of the U.S. Write-in presidential candidates also would need to provide documentation. The records would be open to the public.

Lawmakers endorsed the legislation Wednesday, and the measure needs another vote before moving to the Senate.

Sponsoring House member Lyle Rowland, a Republican from Cedarcreek, says the requirements are preventative and would give voters assurances that candidates are qualified.

Democratic critics said any concerns about a president’s qualifications to hold office did not seem to arise until Barack Obama won election in 2008.

Statement from TheObamaHustle:

“Democratic critics said any concerns about a president’s qualifications to hold office did not seem to arise until Barack Obama won election in 2008.”  That is because these concerns have never been present untill Barack Obama’s anomalies showed themselves to be too inconsistent as to what what is constitutionally eligible.
